Anthony Hagins, an executive at Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated, emerged from modest origins in Detroit. He dedicates his spare time to mentoring young men, inspiring them to transcend their circumstances and forge their paths. Seeking to publish a memoir to bolster his mentoring endeavors and recount his journey, he encountered challenges and sought assistance to finalize the manuscript. Following a strategic session and reviewing his draft manuscripts, Mike Franklin assigned Hagins a writing coach. It secured victories in both the Overall and Younger Fiction categories at the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, alongside claiming the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Story, an honor decided by children. Additionally, Albert earned nominations for the Branford Boase Award and the Carnegie Medal. The debut also clinched the title of Overall Book of the Year by Blackwell's, surpassing titles in the Adult Market.
Following this success, Albert Coleman's second novel, "Beneath the Surface" debuted in March and earned recognition as Children's Book of the Week in The Times. It also made the title of Children's Book of the Month by Blackwell's. Nominated for Best Children's Fiction in the Books Are My Bag Awards, the book brought Albert a nomination for Best Breakthrough Author.
